This course is for staff and volunteers involved in the care and display of collections, specifically historic costume.
Participants will be introduced to mounting historic dress for display through practical hands on training. All of the basic requirements for mounting dress will be explored such as measuring garments, selecting mannequins, padding for shape and covering in jersey. The session will also touch on the basics of making padded arms and petticoats demonstrating how these are also necessary for mounting.
Basic sewing skills will be essential for this practical session.
Participants will leave with confidence in their ability to:
- Select objects for display based on their condition
- Measuring garments and selecting mannequins if relevant
- Padding a mannequin to create shape and support
- Making padded arms
- Making petticoats
